L’Escorxador is one of the new cultural landmarks in Cabanyal-Canyamelar, housed in a former slaughterhouse in the maritime district, built in 1910 and recovered for public use. The building brings together several layers of memory: its original activity linked to the seaside neighbourhood, its role as the headquarters of Salvem el Cabanyal for more than two decades, and its present as an open cultural centre. From this trajectory, the space operates as a neighbourhood facility, a place for documentation and a meeting point for associations, residents and visitors.

Music plays an important role in this new public life. Its programme includes concerts and sound-based activities as a way to activate the building, bring the community together and connect generations. In a neighbourhood marked by a strong popular, festive and associative identity, music appears as a natural tool for telling the story of Cabanyal-Canyamelar from within: its memories, its mixtures, its resistance and its everyday forms of coexistence. L’Escorxador thus adds a living cultural dimension, where heritage is listened to as well as explained.

Its activity is completed with workshops, talks, theatre, exhibitions and dramatised visits, always with an accessible, inclusive and intergenerational vocation. More than a container for activities, L’Escorxador is conceived as a space for cultural participation: a place where the neighbourhood preserves memory, produces the present and rehearses new forms of encounter.
